In order to achieve product safety and quality requirements, correct botanical identification is the first step. It is important to ensure that the plant (or other source material) identified on the label of a finished product is the correct species. Nutragenius® is always focusing on developing the most appropriate methods for each botanical by collaborating with university laboratories, research organizations and highly experienced pharmacognosists. To date, a lot of scientifically reliable methods include macroscopic/microscopic assessment of plant morphology; genotypic (DNA) analysis; chromatographic fingerprinting (TLC, HPLC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS); chemical tests, have been developed by Nutragenius® research team. These methods are scientifically sound and highly accurate in the assessment of raw herbs, extracts, isolates, medicinal ingredients and finished products. Based upon correct botanical identity, Nutragenius® uses its own advanced technologies, which can ensure and enhance product safety by reducing product contamination by microbials, heavy metals, pesticides, extraneous plant parts, unintended plants and other foreign matter, to eliminate contaminants that are present in unacceptable levels in the raw materials to ensure the safety of finished product (correct ingredients and labeling, no contaminants).

Consumers must use products that are consistent in strength in order to get the most reproducible results and benefits. That’s why product efficacy is also a major area of our research, and in doing this work, standardization to a specific content of active or analytical marker is one of our means of maintaining product quality.  To ensure our products contain the proper and consistent amount of active ingredient(s), Nutragenius® has developed and introduced its standardization processes to produce more consistent natural products. Nutragenius® standardization  processes can ensure a number of purposes, including:

  • Batch-to-batch consistency
  • Confirmation of the correct amount of extract per dosage unit
  • Optimizing the desired marker content and physiological activity

The usefulness of a natural health product is based not only on its safety, efficacy and quality, but also on how readily it can be administered to the patient. Using knowledge of the mechanisms of drug absorption, distribution, and the factors influencing those mechanisms, and the physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties of active ingredients in a product, Nutragenius® is focusing its research on the development of advanced dosage forms, which are specifically designed to be easily digested and absorbed in the GI tract to achieve the best bioavailability and the desired activities. With a full range of formulation and analytical development capabilities, as well as good manufacturing processes, Nutragenius® has developed a series of formulation technologies to ensure that its finished natural health products can consistently deliver the active ingredients in the correct amount, at the highest bioavailability  rate, over the shelf-life of the products.
